Winter Camp - Final Day Updates

Sadhaka's has to have the feeling that everything is divinity & every act is an act of divinity. Lord is a Leela vinothini .. he enjoys playing, so accept whatever happening is his leela only. Guruji Lecture session started with this mesmerizing statement on the final day of Sadhana Sangama's Winter Camp. Guruji then beautifully explained on how we should work on our issues which are mostly created by us.

He then stated, every jeeva writes his/her own script. Meditation means this very second, again & again the script writer has to detach himself from the script and allow the script to go on. If you become the character of the script, you get lost. Now the question is what kind of script I am writing? If the script is already written, we can’t do much, unless we have the power to scrap the whole script, which only yogi’s can do.  As a sadhaka, our approach should be to see it in a detached way.

It’s nothing wrong in any thought that arises, but if we give any energy to that thought, then the problem arises. If we respond to that thought, then we get agitated. If someone irritates you, insults you .., immediately the “I” or the EGO gets agitated and reacts.  Instead we should see them in the detached way. Thoughts come because of our habit patterns, vasanas, desires etc. Here, Detachment doesn’t mean suppression. When we yield, react to a thought, then it brings all sort of distraction. Thought has a freedom to attack us, but we too should have a freedom not to react to the same thought.

Meditation is the space given by lord to every soul to understand, and respond and to enhance the harmony. All great masters, they are detached, that’s why they slog so much and do service to the humanity, however the attached people cannot do this.

Now the question is, if I detach, I need something to hold on. What is that? Remember I am that satchindanda roopa, I am that unbroken, infinite joy. Every soul is a soul which cannot be broken. Your idea, your thought, your desire, your expectation can be broken, but you are not broken. Contracting is not our nature, our very nature is always expanding.

Action is the very quality of a jeeva. In what way one has to act. Patanjali says, if yoga has to take place, if oneness has to take place, then start with TAPA , i.e. Discipline. Discipline means that which follows. If transformation has to take place in me, first I have to become a disciple. Discipline means I become a disciple of my own self. Only when I become a disciple then discipline comes. So why am I not able to become a disciple. Because of Avidhya, Asmita, raaga, dvesha and agnivesha (five tensions that are described here)

So here TAPA is the answer for all these disorders. What is TAPA, I become the disciple, I don’t expect anything and I only trust and follow that comes. To become a disciple, the quality I have to nurture is the TRUST. It is not hoping, not seeking. Don’t seek, you only TRUST, that is TAPAS. Self discipline is the strong foundation for the Sadhana. This leads to Antardarshana.

Then Guruji narrated a beautiful story to make us understand better

One man fell into well, somehow he came to the water level and he saw a small stem/plant by the side of the well through which he could hold & get some support to stand in the water. He rested for a while and then started shouting for help raising his one hand while another hand holding the plant. One person who went by heard the shouting & decided to help. He sent in a rope down and shouted back at the person who is drowning in the well to catch the rope and climb up. He suggested to trust him and catch the rope tightly so that he can lift him up. The person who is in the well, got confused because he could not see the person who is sending the rope and so he started worryiing how can I trust the rope, when I am not able to see the person who is helping.

The person at the top says, if u want to come up, detach from the plant and catch the rope. The person in the well, thinks, "How can I detach from the plant, because of the plant only I am able to stand in the water without getting drowning. How can i leave this and trust something which I am not able to see except the rope, how can I trust? "

Friends, We are all like the person who is inside the well, that is why we are neither here or nor there. If you  want to come out from drowning, thank the plant, leave it & catch the rope with Trust and come out. Though Plant gives me security, I am not able trust the rope because I am not able to see anything. This is Isvara pranidhaana, detach and attach,. If you are able to do this, then the self awareness is going to be your experience.

Pranidhaana means expansion of our awareness. J. Krishnamurthi says, "freedom from known". I know my anxiety, I know my disappointment, I know my frustration, I know my discontentment, I know my hurt, I know my hate, I know my love, I know my desire. Every condition / discipline we put, it should help in studying something. If study does not take place, this discipline is of no value, it only hurts & creates violence in you.

We don’t have the deservedness to talk about the liberation because all miseries are created by our own self. Wrong way of food, wrong thinking, wrong way of living, hurt, self pity, dejection, expectation, all are created by our own self.  We are not serious in one particular Sadhana and we are jumping like monkeys stating I want to do this sadhana, I want to do that sadhana, this sensation that sensation. We really don’t know what we are really seeking for. Indiscipline mind is the block in the path of sadhana. Discipline yourself, which leads to Self Study.

Friends,

Yoga brings Harmony.
What is harmony? It means togetherness
What is togetherness? It means joy
What is joy? It means lightness
What is lightness? It means silence

We are failing in sadhana, because we are not creating one voice deep within. There is nothing to gain in spirituality, there is only to lose, lose and keep losing all the conditions of the mind. As a Sadhaka remember this, behave like an responsible human being and grow in your Sadhana.

So it is first TAPA i.e. Self Discipline, then it is SVADHYAYA i.e. Self Study and finally ISVARA PRANIDHANA i.e. Self Awareness

Go back with this messsge of Pranidhana, let me develop the Sankalapa Shakthi of self discipline, through that let me study myself, by studying, let me free myself from all problem so that I can identify what is the block in my growth & work towards it.  Develop that power to design your own destiny. This is the message of pranidhana.  May Bhagavathi, bless you all.. Thank you very much...

Day 4 Winter Camp Highlights

Day 4 Highlights from Sadhana Sangama's Winter Camp at Sadhana Dhama:

Guruji Morning Meditation session gave an insight on how Guru Grace works. Here I have tried to give synopsis of the same in best possible way. I pray that the readers gets the essence of what our Gurudev wanted to convey.

Guruji first recalled how Swami Rama blessed our Gurudev by asking, “Bete don’t prepare for teaching, you empty yourself, rest I will take care”. Guruji emphasized that our responsibility should be on how to empty one’s own space so that the Guru Grace can work.

Swami Rama & Ma Bhagavathi

Then he asked a very serious question to the aspirants, “When we want richness from the guru to pass through, why can’t we accept the crises to go through as well? Allow guru grace to work, don’t bring your irritation between. When guru wants to works through you, you should have the space so that he can work and you need to allow it to happen. But we are so selfish, that you always need the comfort. There is nothing wrong in that, but what is our contribution towards the Lord? Lord is giving us so much, where is our offering to the lord?

So meditation means purification. Is it possible for us to purify? What is purification and what is impurity here? Anything that is disturbing the harmony is impurity. If we are not able to do something to enhance the harmony, atleast we should not disturb the harmony. This is the duty of every human being.

We are creating mind of destruction. Develop the mind of infinity, then automatically, your creativity, and capability will be healthy.  Guru does not take care of you according to your own design and desire but it would be according to guru’s vision. Problem is we always want our Guru to act according to our design and desire. Allow the divinity to work through you as it is, that is pranidhaana.

This is the challenge that the meditator has to attend during meditation. Then the Stillness which is already there, starts experiencing. Grace that is already there, starts experiencing. Stillness here does not mean rigid stiffness, you can’t become stiff, but you can experience stillness. Stillness is not stagnation. When you detach, then automatically, the stillness comes.

Then Guruji narrated following humorous story taking UPMA (indian dish) as an example, to make us understand.

I (Guruji) come to your house with great hunger. You ask, “Guruji, what do u want? I say,” I love upma, so please prepare upma for me’.  You then say, “Guruji, I need one hour to prepare UPMA, so you kindly go to room and take rest, and when food is ready, will call u”. I also go to the room and immediately slept because of tiredness. Waking up after some time I come out but I forgot what I ordered earlier. Now I feel how about Poori Saagu to feed my hunger. With poori sagu in my mind, I go and see in the kitchen. There I find only Upma there. Imagine how would be my state of mind?".

Here I could imagine & relate with what Guruji is trying to convey as I personally don’t like UPMA and Poori being a delicious food, is my all time favourite. I believe it would be the case so for many aspirants who are reading this. So when guruji tried enacting a 'sad' face when he finds Upma in the kitchen instead of Poori, the entire audience burst into laughter. Now Guruji realizing the audience are into the story, beautifully compared Upma with our Life.

Guruji continued, “Friends, This is life, I ordered upma and later I desired for Poori. So when I see Upma I get disappointed without realizing that it is UPMA which I ordered earlier. That’s why we are not getting what we wanted in LIFE, because we keep forgetting what we earlier desired for. So Friends, let us accept upma and realize this is life, and enjoy the upma, and thank the lady for serving us the upma instead of complaining why did I get upma instead of Poori.

Needless to say, here Guruji was relating Upma as the current situation that one may go through in life and how he/she should look at the situation.
He then concluded the Meditation session by following beautiful phrase:

When you keep external life simple, you become rich inside. So this is meditation and experience. Absence of irritation is presence of joy and Presence of joy is presence of stillness, may the bhagavathi bless you with all the virtues, thank you.

So friends, hope you find this update useful to implement in your daily Sadhana which Gurudev conveyed on Day4, Morning Meditation session. I still have quite few more updates from the Camp, will be back soon with more, until then… let's thank the Lord with Pranidhaana & accept the situation we are IN today... Vande Guru Paramparam….

Day 3 Winter Camp Updates Contd...

Dear Friends,

Hope you all liked & cherished Guruji's New Year Message. Day 3 of Guruji's lecture session later in the day gave a great insight about how an aspirant has to take up the path of Sadhana and what all obstacles one may face during the process. Below is the brief write up from the lecture session.

If the mind is not calm & serene, no spiritual growth is going to take place. Guruji’s lecture session started with this strong message, preparing us for the foundation for our Spiritual Sadhana. He stressed the importance of Sankalpa for doing any spiritual practice. At the same time, he cautioned that the moment we take sankalpa, the entire nature will perform test after test, hurdles after hurdles to the Sadhaka to test the Sankalpa shakthi of a Sadhaka. A True Sadhaka has to face these test in the spiritual journey. Sankalpa has to follow the discipline.

My mind gone into self inspection for few seconds when Guruji stated, "A true sadhaka is the one who first talk less and values his/her commitment".  Quite a long way to go for most of us, I guess...

Guruji then explained in detail on the Patanjali’s description about 5 tensions that a Sadhaka has to go through in the path of Sadhana to receive "Svadhyaya". Svadhyaya means, that intelligence, that wisdom which is going to remove all obstacles and hurdles and allow the inner energy to travel smoothfully and reach its source. These tensions are those that disturbs the tranquility, harmony of the Mind. Because of these elements, Ishvara Pranidhaan (self awareness) becomes out of question & Awareness is not possible if we are surrounded by these tensions. So what are these tensions & what do they mean? Friends, I have tried to capture in nutshell below in the best of my ability, hope it helps the readers:

Avidhya – basic tension of every human soul. Avidhya means “I don’t know” in simpler terms. For example, I don’t know how to react, I don’t know how to talk, this “I don’t know” creates Tension.  There is a big difference between I don’t know statement made by a realized masters & I don’t know statement made by ordinary souls.  In the former (realized Masters),  there is humility, there is divinity. But in the latter (ordinary human beings), there is only darkness. Highest state of mind also says “I don’t know”, lowest state of mind also says “I don’t know” . But there is vast difference between both of them.

Asmitha -  Avidhya leads to Ashmita. Ashmita means wrong identification of one’s own self.

Raaga – the Attachment, that energy field that gives me comfort is Raaga. It means trying to possess more and more.

Dvesha – Where there is raaaga there would be Dvesha. For example, “I am attached to my son” is RAAGA & if the son doesn’t relate with you as you wanted, then the RAAGA turns into DVESHA. That which gives me disturbance & create frustration in me is Dvesha (likes & dislikes)

Abnivesha  -  Abnivesha Anxiety, Fear (of not getting or losing) & Insecurity. Output of Abnivesha is Restlessness.

Guruji in lighter moments with the aspirants after the lecture session

While we understood very systematically from Guruji what are the basic tensions that Patanjali was talking about on the path of Spiritual Sadhana, before we could question Guruji on how to overcome these basic tensions, Guruji beautifully explained how Patanjali gives scientific approach to overcome them as well. I have again tried to put them in brief manner as follows in the best possible manner:

Patanjali Says, start working from the last, i.e. work first on Abnivesha. See how anxiety, insecurity & loneliness is killing one own self. Contemplate, keep working on it. Find out how we are trying to avoid, escape & fight because of this anxiety, insecurity, fear & restlessness. On deep contemplation, one realizes most of them are our own imagination & assumptions. Every fear is created by us unnecessarily, illogically by our mind.

After working on Abnivesha, then we should start working on Raaga  & Dveesha. Raaga & Dveesha are the unseen energies, inspiring motivating energies behind all our actions. We should start toning down the Intensity of Raaga & Dvesha through FORGET & FORGIVE. Once these elements on worked upon, then one has to start working on Asmitha & finally the Avidhya.

Guruji stated one can be free only when one learns to detach. With detachment, there is freedom.

Friends, let us try to contemplate on this for some time, which would also give me some time to wrap it up the rest of the camp details probably in next post. Thanks for patiently reading and bearing with untrained Mind (of me).

Winter Camp Day 3 - New Year Message from Gurudev

Day 3 of the Camp also coincided with the New Year eve. Starting the new year morning in the Ashram listening to Guruji’s Meditation session, we the participants cannot ask for more than this for great inspiration for the rest of the year. Below is the transcribed version of Guruji's New Year Message as it is, so that the flow from Gurudev can be kept intact:

Wishing you all a happy 2013 !

Friends, if we start analysing life it is very simple, straight forward and without crookedness. There is no misery in life and it is not at all complicated. If you trust life as it is, it is wonderful, beautiful, marvellous; but the problem is we are not able to experience that marvel, that beauty which is there. ‘Why is this so?’ is the question that every meditator should ask.

The purpose of meditation is to find out why and where the life has gone wrong? If one starts exploring and understands then the real meditation begins. Yesterday I was telling you mediation means ‘to attend’.  If you ask me what one has to do in meditation, my honest reply would be there is nothing to do in meditation; then what are we supposed to do in meditation? We are supposed to attend, just attend. Look at your body, you attend to your body. Look at your breathing attend to your breathing. Look at your mind you attend to your mind. Look at your intellect you attend to your intellect. Look at your memory you attend to your memory.

How to attend to it? Just like a true nurse attends to the patient, how a doctor attends to a patient, how Bhagvan attends to bhaktha, how a mother attends to the child, how a teacher attends to the student. Ask this question, How? What is the force, the energy, the emotion, the concern behind this act of attending?

A meditator has to become sensitive. If you are insensitive you’re not a meditator. If you are selfish you are not a meditator. If you think only of your own self, your own pleasures, you are not a meditator. A meditator is one who is sensitive. Sensitive in what way? ‘Let me attend’. If health is the premise then the nurse and the doctor will start wondering why the health does not exist. Are you seeing the beauty? If the child is not enthusiastically playing, responding, enjoying life, the mother looks at the child with utmost innocent feeling asking why this child is not happy, not lively. Please see the beauty of it. Don’t complicate meditation. Meditation is so simple, so beautiful. You can attend to it when you learn how to look at it unconditionally. If you don’t know how to look at it unconditionally how can you attend? You can attend to me or I can attend to you when I am able to see you unconditionally. Putting lot of conditions if am trying to see you, am trying to relate with you, then I will not be able to attend to you. When I attend I’m not there only you are there. That is the beauty of attending. Do you agree with me? If you are attending me means you are not there only I am there. If am attending to you means I am not there only you are there. If nurse is attending to the patient means the nurse is not there. Who is there? Only the patient.

Guruji talking on New Year eve

Now how are we looking at our own self is the question? That is what meditation is. I am making it very simple. Technique comes later. If the knowledge is not there then the technique is not going to work. So the knowledge has to be there. So, what is meditation? What is the understating of meditation? Lord has given me so many faculties, Lord has invested great potential energy; now how these faculties are functioning? How I am using that energy? Lord has given me that intelligence Lord has given me everything... please see this: everything is provided by the lord. I am sitting here and talking and the words are blessed by the Lord. I don’t know from which source the words are coming I am not able to really identify. I am trying my best to find out from where is this coming. But I am not able to. It’s all the Grace, Anughraha because of which I am taking, breathing, able to move my hands and legs.

Look at our own sadhaka Ravi Naik, who is going through such a painful period. When this incident took place I was in Chandigarh. Just two days before I was in Delhi where we had the programme in Malai Mandir, Ravi used to climb 20 steps up and down in the morning and evening, adjusting the mike, taking care of everything. He was so active and cheerful and used to run to his office. Within one day I received a call saying he is not able to move his legs. Where did that power go?  Who took away that power? It is very easy to say that it’s an organ failure. It is not just that. It is something deeper. A Sadhaka has to attend to that. Is it only the failure of the organ? If so, from where and who instigated this failure in that Jeeva? Who did it? Ravi certainly dint do that to himself.

Now one has to ask the serious question what is this? If we say that it is the failure of the organ then it is the insensitive thinking of a soul. Medically we have to give some name and we so we give a name. We are becoming insensitive and dull because of such naming. Oh! what to do? The respiratory system is not working. The question is that till yesterday it was working but now it is not, why.  Who is behind these conspiracies? What clue do I have deep inside that its going to happen like this? Absolutely clueless. That is because I am insensitive.

So meditation is a process in which I try to attend to every dimension of my being. Lord has kept two dimensions. First the faculties (the matter). All the faculties are nothing but matter, chemicals and with that matter he has kept the consciousness also which is not matter.  Prakrti and Chaitanya. Prakruthi is matter and Chaitanya is Consciousness. Prakrti and Chaithanya, when they are together, you can see the activity, the expression.

Like the electricity and the handy cam, when they perfectly harmonise with each other, you can see the expression of the handy cam. If current is not there it can’t work. If current is there and the handy cam is not there, then again it will not work. Please see the beauty of it. Both are needed. This is how the Soundarya Lahari starts – Shivashakthya yukto – both for shiva shathi – yukta, anughraha, is the only bridge. Then as human beings what are we supposed to do?

We have two responsibilities. The first one is Lord has blessed me with so many things, with such a  wonderful instrument called the body. He has given me a wonderful energy field called Prana. He has given me the communication energy fields of emotion and wisdom. And he has invested a lot on me. Now it is my responsibility to take care of all these faculties. Like, how I take care of my new car, my property, the things that I possess, with so much concern. Why I take care of them? Because I invested in them. Why am I not taking care of this? Because someone else has invested in it. This is free, somebody else has given this, so be careless. On the other hand, if I had invested myself, then no. Please see this.

One boy became spendthrift. He kept spending. He used to go to his father and ask for money which he used to spend. The father did not know how to educate this fellow and one day this father said, ‘look, today I am not going to give you a single pie. You go, earn and bring the money. Let me see, it’s a challenge’. The boy took it is as a challenge. He went and searched for a job but he couldn’t find a good job. So, he went to the railway station and became a Kooli or the Mali. He virtually carried the bag and got 25 paise. He came back home with that great enthusiasm, “Dad I earned 25 paise. This is my money”. The father said give me that. The boy gave the money to his father. The father threw the money into the open well next to him. This young boy got very angry – Dad you know how much I worked to get this 25 paise? You don’t value it. What kind of father you are? The father looked at his son – ‘son all these days what did you do? Thousands of rupees that I gave you, you didn’t value it. Now this 25 paise is a big thing to you?

Friends, are we not insensitive? What kind of Dhanyatha bhaava we have. Deep inside Lord is blessing me with everything, still we are crying and complaining. If lord says, Beta if you don’t believe in me, from now onwards I am not going to supply Prana to you. Lets see how we are going to work. If the Lord says I am going to take away the agni (fire) which He has given to us, if Lord starts taking all the elements from me one by one such as earth, water, fire, etc.,  then what am I? Who am I? Where am I?  So my very existence is because of the Grace. There is so much arrogance in us – me, mine, I am doing it, because of me things happen, etc. When the very voice is the voice if ignorance and arrogance, where is Dhanyatha Bhaava?

So, meditation is a process where I learn to attend with all humility and not complaining. If I have got diabetes I attend to it with all humility. I don’t complain. I have received it; let me accept it first. After accepting it let me respect it, and after respecting it let me attend to it. What a beautiful life, you see. Most of the problem we are going through, the miseries we are going through, the pain we are going through, is just because of our arrogance of not accepting it. Do you agree?  Please see this. Please go into this. Your whole misery, all types of miseries that you’re going through is because you’re not accepting it. You accept it, then where is the misery? Tell me. If I accept you, all of you, totally, completely, unconditionally, there is no pain, absolutely no pain. Why I suffer is because I am not accepting it completely.

There is deep dissatisfaction in all of us. Lord has been giving us enough but we are still complaining saying this is not enough, this is not right. Have we ever thanked Lord ... Oh Lord, you are doing so much, you are doing wonderful things, you have given so many things to play. Do we have that feeling? Do we have that dhanyatha bhaava?

A meditator has to develop and live that feeling, that attitude, every second. You know when we do the pooja we start the pooja with Parameshwara Preethyartham- first comes Parameshwara Preethyartham, after that comes ayusha, arogya, aishwarya and itiyathram. In our sankalpa yesterday you might have seen that we don’t have all that. There Jeevan mukti praptyaartam is the only sankalpa we made nothing else. Please see this. Parameshwara Prerthyartham while doing pooja and after that what do I do, Narayanaya eti samarpayami. You should make this as a ritual, you have to feel it. I am doing everything because I love my Lord and after doing everything say, Oh Lord! everything is yours I am offering this to you. Develop this kind of psyche. This is meditation, let me tell you. Let this be the blessing of the Lord to all of us for 2013.

Psyche is to accept everything. Whatever coming to me is because I have created it, I wanted it, all because of me only, please see this. I am suffering because I wanted suffering. Today I am suffering with stomach upset because yesterday I created that suffering by eating pakoda. So, every act you are doing it. If you become aware of it then the every act, desire, prayer, is going to tell you what you are going to get.

Now before praying to the Lord just sit 15 days with the prayer. As the following questions:
What is this that I am praying?
What is this that am asking from the Lord?
Do I deserve it?
If the lord is going to bless me that, am I prepared to take all the effects and consequences of that gift?

Somebody comes and gives me 1 crore rupee black money, very good very nice. I have experienced it, that is why I am telling you. After taking this money I can tell that Oh Lord has sent this money.  Lord says bête I am sending this money and with this money I am also sending you a package of consequence. When I accept this money from the Lord I have to accept its consequence also. If some income tax officer comes and catches you then don’t come to me, says the Lord.

Somebody wanted to organise a show in aid of Sadhana Sangama. It was a Fashion show. He said at the end of the programme Guruji there is going to be 10 lakhs in your Sadhana Sangama bank account. We are going use that because 80G facility is there and these people wanted to convert black in to white and create their own accounts in aid of Sadhana Sangam through the Fashion show. Sadhana Sangama would have got AIDS if it had received that aid. Everybody was so enthusiastic. Guriji lets go for it. At that time I was struggling to build this Dhyana Mandira (Meditation Hall) and this was in 1993, at that time 10 lakhs was a big money and I did not have the money to pay the rent of Sadhana Sangama.

I sat on it for one week and on the fifth day Baba whispered in my ears, ‘Bete, you have the freedom to take this money but aft taking the money the karma is also coming. Are you ready to take that Karma also? Don’t look money as money’. Lakshmi always comes as Karma. Lakshmi doesn’t simply come as Lakshmi. She may come as Daaridra Lakshmi, Santhana Lakshmi and as all types of Lakshmi. Don’t think money come just like that. Money means it is the vehicle through which the Karma enters. So Gurudev whispered, ‘Bete, try to see the karma also attached to it. It is there in its latent form. Money is the kinetic energy and karma is the potential latent energy and once when you receive this kinetic energy this potential energy will also express. Are you ready to take both, Bete? Don’t come back to me when that potential energy starts working as kinetic energy.’

I then made up my mind saying no, let me not take up this money. Let me teach, let me take up classes under the tree but not this money. That is why Sadhana Sangama is not progressing but is potentially growing. It takes time but its growing well beautifully. So friends, let’s go to meditation now.

The very message of Meditation is sensitivity. Is it possible for me to attend to all these things? So, how to begin the journey? It is very simple.

Start the journey with the physical body. Take 30 minutes. See if you can sit still, comfortable, graceful and maintain the body in harmony. Simply ask this question. We don’t have a healthy relationship with our own body. The body complains that since 20 to 30 years I am with you, it is my karma. You are such a horrible master, insensitive master, selfish master. By staying with you I am suffering. When are you going to relieve me? Every second your body is crying. Are you listening to that cry? If you don’t listen to your own body’s crying, how do you expect Lord to listen to your crying? Lord says sorry you do your duty then you come back to me.

Look at your breathing. There is no rhythm, no depth, no smoothness. Look at your mind, what all emotions you are entertaining. With every emotion observe what intention that is pushing the emotion. Look at the strategies; look at the intellect playing its role. Every dimension of your faculty is working towards the target but all these faculties together are not working for the purpose.

Guruji praying for the well being of all Sadhakas on the New Year

A meditator is one who inspires all the faculties to work for the vision, for the purpose, and then every faculty understands the target because every target is connected with the vision, with the purpose. All the targets need not be a pleasurable targets. Most are going to be miserable targets because the vision is very important and not the immediate target. Before me rasagula is there. My emotions says enjoy the rasagula. It is the immediate target but the vision is that I am diabetic. My emotion says eat and New Year’s day is for enjoyment. This is the immediate target. What is the vision? The vision is that next day early morning my sugar will shoot up to 413. Now the question is that is this target connecting with the vision? I suffer and I blame this on others saying I didn’t want to take but this is all because of my students who forced me. Therefore, I am suffering because of my students. How insensitive I am if I say so.

Why am talking so much again and again is because many people ask me why don’t you make us practice? For me this is the practice. What practise I am giving you is for 24 hrs and not for 15- 20 mins. You can’t say I did it, I finished my practice. No. This practice you can’t finish because this is 24X7. This has to go on and on and on. Whereas that practice (the techniques) ends but this practice never ends. It ends when the realisation happens completely, so it is a lifelong thing. Where you have to become aware again and again. This is called SAMARPANA (self awareness). This is called as PRANIDHANA. Not just doing puja.

Yesterday we did puja. Do you mean that we did a self–surrender puja? It becomes another enchanting activity, ritualistic activity and again it binds us. If I don’t do that activity one day then again the mind says what will happen? If that activity is going to bind you let me tell you that is not a divine activity. Any activity which gives you self–awareness, any activity which gives you freedom, any activity which makes you realise, that is real samarpana. That is Ishwara Pranidhana. For that I need some reminders. That is why all these activities outside and we need all these activities, there is no doubt about it but all these activities are for that. This target has to connect me with the vision. If this happen, friends, then it is marvelous. Let that be the gift for this New Year. Now let us all meditate with this kind of awareness.

With the above message, Guruji then guided all of us to the Meditation Practice. Truly day 1 of the year 2013 was a great blessing to all the Sadhakas who were present in the camp and I am sure the blessings extends to all the sadhakas across globe who are unable to attend the camp but could read the above message from our beloved Gurudev.

Friends, Rest of the updates, I will try cover in a nutshell along with Day 4 activities pretty soon, till then, Happy Sadhana...

Winter Camp - Day 2

 A report by 'Bansuri'

Friends, Apologies for updating Day 2 program on Day 3. Well, the day itself folded in such an engaging manager & tight but enchanting schedule, at the end of the day (night), all I could do was to take some time to chew or digest the Prasada or the vast amount of knowledge transfer that all of us got during the Day.

The Day 2 started with Guruji’s Meditation Session in morning. Guruji took all the participants through Guided Meditation Practice. He emphasized the importance of Meditation in a Sadhaka’s Daily life and how it would lead him/her through the final goal. He guided the participants on the importance of Self Discipline, Self Study & Self Awarenss in the process of Meditation.

During this session, our beloved Guruji gave lot of importance to the word “to Attend”. He lovingly described Meditation in a very simpler term so that we all could understand and apply in our daily Sadhana. He stated Meditation is nothing but “to attend”.

Guruji giving importance on "Meditation" for a Sadhaka
At the end of the class, I personally felt I was doing everything but “to attend” during Meditation. I could understand from the class, mechanical recital of Mantra or sitting & closing the eyes, start our inner movie Journey visualizing our family, business issues / problems, finding a solution for them by closing our eyes is certainly not what Mediation is. Mediation means “To attend”, attending to each & every activity that happens. As a true sadhaka, Stillness of the Body / Mind, Rhythmic Breathing & Calming the Mind are the basic essentials that we need to attend to while Meditation.

Guruji clarifying Participants queries

Later during the Lecture session, Guruji talked on the very important Patanjali Sutra “Chitha Vrithi Nirodhaga” and its application towards Pranidhaana. We could understand from the session that Yoga means shifting from reaction to response & Freedom from the bondage is the real effect of Yoga. Once we are free from bondage, then the inner consciousness would be in touch with the eternity.

He stated, according to Patanjali the very purpose of life is to experience THAT unconditional space in each one of us. Only if we are in that unconditional space, we can able to understand one’s true self.  Another signification question that Guruji put to all of us was “Is it possible for us to see things as they are without adding any condition. For example, he stated, we often use or state these statements to our closed loving ones – “I am loving you because…”, “I am working because….”, “I am sharing because… “ We participants were pondering quite for a while, when he asked us “can we remove that BECAUSE and still possible to love, can we remove that BECAUSE & still able to work, can we remove that BECAUSE & still able to share ? In this way, Guruji meant that we can identify the true self and attend to one’s true nature.

According to him & Patanjali, “Mind that is constantly seeking is not a spiritual mind”.  To really attain pranidhaana, Is it possible for us to create a mind where it does not seek anything?. Can we empty our mind to find out where reactions are coming from, To find out where the waves are arising from ? Yoga says go back… modern education says go forward… He stressed this is chittha vrithi nirodhaga…

He also posed one serious question to all the participants – “Can we take charge of our life & take the responsibility of our life instead of blaming on external things?  When we trust divinity, divinity takes away all those that are not needed in you with great compassion but which for us are pleasurable things, but it’s a painful process one has to go through in this path. Are we ready to take that journey?

Guruji also remembered & shared one personal incidence that happened between our beloved Gurudev & Swami Rama. He lovingly shared, how Swami Rama once said to him, “Bete, at the right time, right people will come and do the right thing for you, you only keep doing selfless service…. as selfless service is your worship… ". As followers of our beloved Guruji, we need not agree more with what Swami Rama has once told to our Gurudev, as Selfless Service is always been our Gurudev's very being & existence which inspires thousands & thousands of seeker’s all over the world towards Sadhana Sangama & its mission.

Jyothi Ma on "Sri Vidhya"

Enthusiast participants discussing on Dhaarana with Jyothi Ma

There is also separate evening session with Jyothi Ma on “DHAARANA”  an essential requirement for meditation from Vijnaana Bhairava an ancient text of Tantra which provides 112 types of Dhaarana techniques for any individual disposition. Selected few types were imparted to the Sadhakas & also on the signifance of “Soundaryalahiri”.

Friends, considering the vast ocean & teachings that involves in SriVidhya technique, it is best not to capture them with this untrained mind (Mine) and put into words here. It is best understood & heard from Divine Masters only.  As Jyothi Ma, stated beautifully only with the help of Guru grace & holding on to the guru’s feet, one can sail through the vast knowledge of Sri Vidhya. So Guru is the Dharanaa for Srividhya Practice.

I only pray to the divinity that all sadhaka’s who are in the path of Sadhana and who have the Grace of receiving that vast knowledge would get to know atleast few glimpses of these great Sri Vidhya technique from these realized Masters & great Sadhaka’s.  Jyothi Ma also expressed her idea that she wanted to impart few knowledge from Srividhya technique to all Sadhaka’s across world for which you can expect communication mailers from Sadhana Sangama soon.

All the Sadhaka’s who attended the camp felt so blessed not only for receiving such vast knowledge but also to be part of the divine “SRI VIDHYA” pooja that both Guruji & Jyothi Ma performed late in the evening. All the sadhaka’s could witness Sri Vidhya Pooja performed by Jyothi Ma added with beautiful explanation of each steps performed by our Guruji. Participants also visualized & performed some of the steps in the pooja.
